Sri Lanka Law College has produced remarkable legal personalities, who also embarked on different industries and excelled in their careers. This bears witness to the fact that the Sri Lanka Law College not only produces legal professionals but also ethical and well-informed human beings. The legacy of Sri Lanka Law College is deeply interwoven with that of the nation’s legal, political, and administrative history. The alumni roster of the college boasts a great deal of notable personalities from the legal and political spheres in Sri Lanka.
This institution has produced many prominent figures, including Chief Justices and Attorneys General of Sri Lanka, highlighting its crucial role in legal education. The college’s influence also extends to politics, having educated three Presidents of Sri Lanka: the late Hon J.R. Jayewardene, Hon Mahinda Rajapaksa, and Hon Ranil Wickremesinghe. This legacy reflects its significant impact on both the legal and political fields.
The influence of the College extends to notable political personalities, including Dr C.W.W. Kannangara, Sir Cyril de Zoysa, Sir Lalitha Rajapakse, late Hon Gamini Dissanayake, late Hon Lalith Athulathmudali, and late Hon Appapillai Amirthalingam. These alumni have also left an indelible mark on the political landscape of Sri Lanka.
Late Justice C G Weeramantry was one of the most respected alumni that was produced by Sri Lanka Law College, having served as a justice of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka and thereafter as a Judge of the International Court of Justice.
