Sri Lanka Law College is the only body of legal education in Sri Lanka that nurtures, evaluates, and qualifies prospective law students to become Attorneys-at-Law since its establishment in 1874.
Mr. Prasantha Lal De Alwis, President's Counsel, assumed duties as the new Principal of Sri Lanka Law College today 22nd October 2024.
Mr. De Alwis is a renowned lawyer, educator, academic, diplomat and corporate figure holding multiple qualifications across many disciplines.
He began his career as a State Counsel at the Attorney General's Department of Sri Lanka in 1983, and served in that capacity until 1990. Subsequently, he joined the Private Bar and practised in both appellate and trial courts, specializing in the spheres of criminal and family Law.
Mr. De Alwis has contributed immensely to the legal profession in Sri Lanka, both as a practitioner and as a lecturer in law at the University of Colombo and Sri Lanka Law College.
He also served as a member of the Incorporated Council of Legal Education and as a Member of the Board of Studies of Sri Lanka Law College.
Mr. De Alwis is well known for his student-centric approach which has endeared him to the thousands of students he has taught over several decades.
